Job Duties:

  • Use and operate tools and equipment used in horticulture
  • Daily balancing of POS system, and debit /credit card terminal
  • Ordering of supplies as needed for retail operation
  • Overseeing the general daily tasks in the Nursery-Watering, restocking and potting up
  • Working with Management to achieve sales goals and problem solve
  • Receiving orders, tagging product and putting away
  • Overseeing the CRM database (Customer relationship management)
  • Plant seeds and transplant seedlings
  • Tree, shrub and plant examination and treatment
  • Care for growing plants by watering, pruning, weeding, cultivation, potting up and removing dead or damaged leaf tissue
  • Inspect, handle and transport nursery stock
  • Plant fertilization and watering
  • Prune trees, shrubs, and hedges
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment at all times
  • Comply with all company policies and regulations
  • Work in accordance with all local health and safety laws and regulations
  • Communicate with customers in a polite and courteous manner
  • Understanding and responding to customer complaints
  • Liaison with office staff to facilitate customer plant requests

Requirements:

  • Horticulturist certification/Diploma or equivalent experience required
  • Competent plant knowledge and identification, trees, shrubs, and perennials
  • Proven customer service skills
  • Able to oversee small task jobs
  • Physically fit with strong stamina
  • Ability to follow safe working procedures
  • Excellent observation skills and strong attention to detail
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Effective communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Ability to work both independently with little supervision
  • Ability to give direction for other nursery workers
  • Speak, read, and write English
  • Computer skills an asset

Work Conditions:

  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. repeatedly through an entire work shift
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Requires good manual dexterity
  • Excellent stamina is required
  • Work outdoors in various conditions including heat and humidity, rain, dust, noise, and cold
  • Must have the flexibility to work weekends and holidays
